第24回 国際平和美術展
The “24th World Peace Art Exhibition” was held in the cities of Kamakura and Nice, which were celebrating the 50th anniversary of their sister city relationship. Displayed there was a diverse array of works by 170 Japanese artists, together with their messages for peace.
In the domestic exhibition, a joint exhibition was held in honor of President Obama’s historical visit to Hiroshima in May, in which he became the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima. In the international exhibition, on the other hand, there was mourning for the victims of the Nice truck attack which occurred in July, with people leaving flowers at the memorial. In many ways, this exhibition became an important opportunity to reconsider the importance of peace. And because both these cities have historically been tourist destinations, there were many families, who were able to share their thoughts while enjoying the exhibition.
